John W. Labadie is Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University, and is currently serving as Coordinator of the Water Resources Planning and Management Program. Dr. Labadie received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Ph.D degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Labadie specializes in application of decision support systems, mathematical programming, artificial intelligence, knowledge-based systems and geographic information systems to complex problems in water resources and environmental systems management. He is currently teaching graduate courses in GIS in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIVE 577), Computer-aided Water Management and Control (CIVE 645), Engineering Optimization (ENGR 510), and Engineering Decision Support Systems (ENGR 520), all of which are also offered as on-line distance courses through CSU Online Plus. He has served as Principal and Co-Principal investigator for over 50 research projects totaling over $8 million in funding from a wide range of sponsors at the Federal, State, regional, and municipal government levels. He has served as Senior Editor of the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management of the American Society of Civil Engineers, is a Fulbright Research Scholar, has won two annual Best Paper awards for publications in scholarly journals, and received the 2005 Faculty Award for Excellence in Research in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Labadie is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado.
