Program Description

This program is intended to encourage and support graduate and undergraduate student research in disciplines relevant to water resources issues and to assist Colorado institutions of higher education in developing student research expertise and capabilities. It is intended to help students initiate research projects or to supplement existing student projects in water resources research. Proposals must have a faculty sponsor and students must be enrolled full-time in a degree program at one of Colorado's public 4-year Universities.

Funding

Budgets may include, but are not limited to, expenditures for student salaries, fringe benefits, supplies, services, travel, and other direct costs. Funds will not be approved for faculty salaries, student tuition, or equipment. Each award is limited to a maximum of $5,000. Awards may be effective as early as March 1, 2010 and research projects should be completed by February 28, 2011. For these research grants, only direct costs are allowed. Facilities & Administrative (F&A) costs may be shown as institutional cost share. Institutions are encouraged to participate in project costs although cost sharing is not required.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled full-time in a degree program at one of the nine Colorado public universities. Proposals must have a faculty sponsor from the applicant's institution. The faculty sponsor is responsible for ensuring that the proposal has been processed according to their university’s proposal submission policies and procedures.

Deliverables

Upon completion of the research project, recipients will be required to submit a final project report, which will include a narrative on research activities, results, and financial accounting of all expenditures. Projects must be completed and results reported by February 28, 2011. Students may be asked to present an oral report.

Announcement of Awards

The student applicant and faculty sponsor will be notified as to the status of their application by December 18, 2009 via email.
